We are in the midst of the holiday season. I thought what better way to start off December than with some of my favorite Christmas songs! As y’all know, I am obsessed with music and Christmas. When it comes to decorating and getting everything ready for the Christmas season, music is a staple in my routine. Here are some of my favorite Christmas jams.
1. Carol of the Bells Pentatonix
To begin, we are highlighting the incredible acapella group, Pentatonix. I have been a fan since I was in high school. This song is one of the reasons for that. Their version of this song is just stunning. The vocals are incredible! I love singing this song, because it is a great vocal challenge. The harmonizes and layering are amazing as always. They are Christmas legends for sure.

2. Mary, Did You Know? Pentatonix and Clay Aiken
Since I was young, this Christmas classic has always been one of my favorites to play. Clay Aiken does a great cover of this song. I enjoy the sound of his voice and the smoothness of the beat. Naturally, when Pentatonix released a cover of this song, I could not resist! Truly, this is my favorite song by them. Everything about this is incredible. I love the layering and the tempo. Their vocals are truly so beautiful. The music video is fun too.

3. Where are you Christmas Faith Hill
Switching to one of my favorite Christmas films, I make sure to watch Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas every year. In the Jim Carrey version, this song plays at the end. This jam has always been one of my favorite Christmas songs. Overall, I love the message and story the song tells. These are real and important feelings that a lot of people have around the holiday season. This song is a great reminder of what is most important to me during this time of year.

4. The Christmas Song Nat King Cole
Honestly, it is not Christmas until I hear this song play. It is the first song my family plays when we start decorating for Christmas and when we wake up on Christmas day. This song is truly a Christmas classic. It makes me feel so much joy as soon as I hear the first beat. I love this song so much that I played it on piano for one of my Christmas recitals as a kid. I still have the sheet music to this day, so I can play it every year.

5. When Christmas Comes to Town
Moving on to another one of my favorite Christmas films, The Polar Express is a staple in my house. My Mom, sister, and I watch it every Christmas Eve. By the end, I am always hoping I can hear the beautiful sound of that bell forever. From the film, one of my favorite songs is When Christmas Comes to Town. The song is truly so beautiful. Again, this song tells a story of faith, hope, and trust. I love that it shares two different perspectives. Similarly, this song holds a special place in my heart because I got to play it in 8th grade band for a Christmas recital. I got to do the flute solo in the song. It was so cool! I practiced for weeks to get it perfect.

6. Christmas Eve / Sarajevo Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Over the years, this song has become a Christmas classic for me. I hope I have the opportunity to play this song or conduct a performance of it. For now, I hope to see this song performed live one day. I know it will be incredible! This is random, but one of my favorite memories of this song is watching videos on YouTube of people doing light projections to this song on their houses. They are truly amazing! It is definitely worth the YouTube search if you have never seen it.

7. The Christmas Shoes Newsong
Not to be overly dramatic, the first time I heard this song my life was changed. I ended up crying because of how beautiful it is. This song tells the story of a little boy who is trying to buy his Mother a pair of shoes. It is a perfect example of what Christmas truly means. It reminders us to not only think about, but to prioritize what is most important to us. It is definitely a lesson worth learning, because it provides great perspective.
