One of my favorite things in the world is listening to music. I love experiencing new genres and cultures through a song. Since I am in Spain, I wanted to make a list of my top 5 favorite Spanish songs. Most of these are songs that I found in high school, but I love them so much that I still listen to them. I have a playlist on Spotify for them. They have helped me with learning the language. My amazing high school Spanish teacher recommended that I start listening to Spanish music. When you listen to the music, you get used to the accents and separating the words. It has helped me in ways I could not imagine.
1. “Yo no se mañana” by Luis Enrique
This was one of the first Spanish songs I ever listened it. I love this song so much! I ended performing a traditional dance to this song at my Spanish Honor Society ceremony. It was amazing! I love dancing, so I was excited to do this. Every second that I was up there, I was having the time of my life. The song itself is really good. It has a calm and relaxing vibe at the beginning. Then, it goes into a beat that makes you want to dance. It maintains this for the rest of the song. Plus, it has live instrumentation throughout, which is always the best. The vocals and percussion in this song are incredible. Most importantly, the trumpets really shine in this song adding another line to the song.
2. “¡Corre!” by Jesse y Joy
I think the first time my teacher recommended this song. I was memorized. This slow ballet is incredible! I like it, because it is simple. It begins with just vocal and guitar, so it’s like having an acoustic version. Acoustic versions are some of my favorite versions of songs, because of the rawness they allow. At the chorus, there is the introduction of percussion and strings, which adds depth to the song. Something that is interesting to me is the fact that you can hear the emotion in every note that is sung and played. I think it adds to the emotional story that these artists are trying to portray. Plus, the music video is fantastic too.
3. “Las cosas pequeñas” by Prince Royce
I really like Prince Royce. After hearing him, I went out and bought all his CD’s. My best friend, Mikala, and I are obsessed. This is one of my favorite songs by him. Every time I hear this song, I want to dance. The song is so light and fun. The percussion throughout this song is incredible! The use of percussion for harmonization is excellent. Also, I like how the guitar has a separate line from the vocal. Everything in this song works together to create something amazing.
4. “Dónde está el amor” by Pablo Alborán feat Jesse & Joy
This is the last person that my teacher recommended me to listen to before graduating high school. My teacher has the best taste in music, because I liked all the songs she recommended. Best of all, it features Jesse y Joy, who I already enjoy. Once again, this song is so simple, but great. It starts out slow, but increases tempo when percussion enters around the chorus. The instrumentation throughout is amazing. The harmonization of vocals between Pablo and Joy is incredible! Also, I like the simplicity of the music video, because it helps to emphasize the importance of the lyrics and emotions in the song.
5. “Pero Me Acuerdo De Tí” by Christina Aguilera
On my Spotify, I created a playlist that has all of my favorite Spanish music. After listening to my entire playlist, this song started playing from the radio that Spotify has. Of course, Christina Aguilera is always amazing, but this song is next level. I think I listened to it like twenty times after hearing it for the first time. This song is a slow ballet that flows perfectly. The song is so simple and filled with so much emotion. Her vocals are incredible in this song. Also, the instrumentation helps to highlight her vocals throughout the song.
Here are my favorite Spanish songs that I would encourage everyone to checkout.
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!
