Music Favorites March 2017

Advertisements

I have loved music for as long as I can remember. There is something about the personal experience that interests me. When I listen to music, I consider everything from the chords, to the lyrics, to the artists, etc. I always enjoy listening to new music and discovering new artists, but I have a bad habitat of listening to the same song on repeat for weeks on end. I am always telling myself to listen to new music, so I figured I would make a series of posts where I will share 5 songs that I have been loving during the month. Although music is a personal experience, there is nothing better than sharing music with others. Plus, it will help me to make sure I am listening to new music all the time. Plus, I love watching and reading monthly favorite posts, so I figure this would be perfect.

Here are my top 5 favorite songs, so far this year.

  1. Lights Down Low by Max Schneider

I remember listening to this song for the first time from Max’s YouTube channel at the end of last year. Recently, I was at work and his song Basement Party came on. I had remembered that I had his album on my IPod. I went home that night and listened to the album again. This song is literally so amazing! I love the relaxed vibe. The lyrics are amazing! I can hear all the emotion in throughout this song. I am obsessed! Also, there is an orchestral version on his channel that is great.

  1. Work the Middle by Alex Aiono

Recently, I went to the William Singe and Alex Aiono concert. Let me just say that they were both outstanding! It was such an incredible experience. I appreciate everything that they do, because they are both so amazing! Anyways, this song is so great! It incorporates a lot of different musical influences. There is a little Hispanic vibe and some pop. Whenever I hear this song, I want to get up and dance. I always want to salsa dance. I love dancing, so anything that makes me want to dance is already high on my list. From the lyrics to the beat, this song will make you want to get up on your feet. Also, there is an acoustic version on Spotify that has the some of the best guitar chords. I love the guitar chords at the beginning and how he sings in a different key than the original.

  1. Rush by William Singe

I love R&B music so much. This is a perfect example. This song has the perfect vibe. One of my favorite parts is when the beat first drops in the beginning, because it makes me nod my head instantly. His vocal range throughout is stunning. This song is musical complex, but simple at the same time. I love everything about it!

From the beginning of this year, there has been two albums that I have been loving. I tried to pick my favorite song from each album to put in this list, but it is impossible. Every song on both albums is so amazing. I feel like I would be doing an injustice by just picking one song. I decided instead of having the last 2 be single songs. I would make them the albums. From the beginning of this year, these albums have been on repeat everyday all day.

  1. 24K Magic by Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars is truly a gift from the heavens above. He is an inspiration and is so influential. This album is no different. I was sold as soon as I saw the album cover. This album is a game changer. I love the vibe of this album. He went to his roots to create this masterpiece. I remember I got this album for Christmas, because I needed a CD copy of course. I got my whole family to talk about this album. We were all on the same page about the different path Bruno Mars took to make this album versus his other albums. If you think about, he has always had this vibe. You can hear it in other songs like Locked out of Heaven. Moving forward, this post would be so long if I talked about how amazing ever song was. Let me say that this album has great lyrics, beats, and makes me want to dance. It contains that old-school vibe that recent music has been lacking. Bruno Mars filled a void that I have been missing.

  1. Divide by Ed Sheeran

What does one say about Ed Sheeran other than perfection really? This album is very inspirational and incredible. I enjoy Ed Sheeran’s ability to be so complex in a simple manner. His lyrical ability is out of this world. He has done incredible things for his musical genre. His simplicity is unmatchable and I think this is why people love him so much, because he is so real in all his music. His experimentation with different musical genres and cultures is amazing. You can hear his inspiration in each song. I think this is great, because every song is a completely new and unique experience. Especially with songs like Barcelona, Bibia Be Ye Ye, Galway Girl, and Nancy Mulligan, I feel like I am travelling with him. Even within these songs, there are so many other musical influences. Lastly, the emotion that he puts into every song echoes throughout. The songs that come to mind first are, of course, Supermarket Flowers and Eraser. I think his ability to make the emotion flow throughout the song is what makes it so relatable and powerful.
