Music Finds: Hamilton Edition

Since Disney was kind enough to release Hamilton on Disney+ for us, I had to watch it the night it released… of course. May I say, it was incredible! I enjoyed every minute. It was a 2 hour and 40 minute play. The cast was amazing and diverse! The songs were crafted beautifully. I figured why not share some of favorites:

Helpless by Phillipa Soo, Original Broadway cast of Hamilton

The perfect way to tell Alexander and Eliza’s love story. Phillipa Soo’s voice is so incredible! Plus, I learned it duos with my favorite song.

Satisfied by Renee Elise Goldsberry, Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton

This is one of my favorite songs in the whole musical. I learned every word when it first came out a few years ago. There is just so much realness in this song from understanding your place in the world to love to societal pressure to regret. Plus, it sounds amazing! Renee Elise Goldsberry and the cast are incredible!

Wait for It by Leslie Odom Jr., Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton

This is my new favorite obsession after watching it on Disney+. First, Leslie Odom Jr, is amazing and he is so talented. Second, the cast’s entrance at versus two was unmatched. I felt that in my soul. The harmonization with Leslie Odom Jr. is everything. The back vocals throughout are great. From the beat to the lyrics, everything compliments each other.

That Would Be Enough by Phillipa Soo, Lin-Manuel Miranda

This song is just so beautiful. Phillipa Soo’s vocal ability and emotion are so incredible. The message is so powerful and relatable.

History Has Its Eyes on You by Christopher Jackson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton

First, everyone sounds amazing in this song. The instrumentation compliments perfectly. Like the previous song, it has a message that is not only valuable but is so relatable even now.

Burn by Phillipa Soo

This is another song I learned all the words to a couple years ago when it came out. The emotion alone… you can hear it down to her crescendos and decrescendos. Her voice throughout the song is so incredible. It’s the perfect song to sing at the top of your lungs when you are in that kind of mood.

Take a Break by Phillipa Soo, Anothony Ramos, Lin-Manuel Miranda

I loved the story in this song. We, the viewer, experienced their lives while also getting some fun, lyrically and vocally.

Give these a listen if you haven’t heard them already. Let me know some of your favorites from Hamilton in the comments. I hope you are having a lovely day. I will see you soon with more!
